I was wondering how to achieve this effect like in this site:
http://www.rezn8.com/
Go to ET, and choose the 3rd movie to see the ramdom glow in the letters.

I could animate a light to hit only the letters, make the letters receive only specular from this light in Maya and then, in post, I could put glow to enhance the effect.

Is there another easy, or better way to achieve this neat and beautiful effect like in the example?

Thanks!

looks like the site is currently down, at least for me.

without looking, you might see if trapcodes particular works

random effects are usually 'expressions'

its up, wow, some beautiful work. in an interview it says they use heavy 2d and 3d, so that could be one the other or a combo of both. too hard to tell. if its done in AE, it has the look of masks to get that shimmer around the text edges. ive done some simple stuff like that with 3dstroke, or vegas plugin, (albeit, very simple).

From other things Ive seen I'd guess its mostly all 3d effects making the text, composited in layers, but they coulda masked some effects in AE as it revolves.

This could have been done in Max's video post using one of the lens/glow effects. I have done effects like this in the past using this method, rendering seperate elements and compositing in AE.

yeah, I dont know max, but that alien computer, I think I remember was made in Max.
I cant see in any of the interviews where it mentioned the 3d package, but Max is a good
bet.
