View Full Version : hard surfaces for film res - poly, subd or nurbs
T-bat 02-07-2005, 04:59 PM Hi,
which type of geometry is prefered nowadays for hard surfaces like spaceships etc. in movies and why? I would guess subd or nurbs for their resolution independency. Am I right? And sorry for my english.

These days more and more things are built with subD surfaces, indeed.

You are right,
Polys would have to be subdivided again at close range, likely leaving artifacts. I myself would go with a form of patches like NURBS, that or subD's. But I think NURBS allow for more accurate modelling but can be very time consuming compared to SubDs.
Happy modelling.
