Hiya ppl... can someone please help me here... i am about to pull my damn hair out over this!! i have made a samurai sword and i have it lying on a plane which i have textured to look like gravel. i am looking at it directly from above (looking straight down on it) and i have an omni light setup above it and off to the side slightly, so it is casting a shadow of the sword slightly to the side of it...

my PROBLEM is that i cant get the blade to look real... everything else looks good... but i just cant get the blade right... i have looked at some tutorials on the net for making metal but i cant seem to get it looking like their examples?? PLEASE help...!

I'm just going to guess that the blade is almost (if not totally) flat? If so, then have a look at Neil Blevins' site for information on making flat metallic surfaces look good:
http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/flat_metallic_surfaces/flat_metallic_surfaces.htm

If it's rounded and still looks bad, what are you using for an environment? Because a metal texture will only look as good as what it's reflecting. What's are you using for a metal material? What version of Max are you using and what renderer?
