I embarking on the creation of a new short. Before getting the hang of modelling I made a few characters, one that I'd like to use in the short. Now I could recreate him, but I'd rather save myself the work and just fix him up and give him some clothes. Currently without any clothes he's 44000+ faces. Is this bad? Should I start again from scratch? I think he could be a pain to work with as is. the problem is he was created with splines and the distribution of faces is spread out evenly all over his body.

If you're using Max, there's a modifier you can use called MultiRes(I think), that will let you select the maximum number of polygons for that object. Just change the values until your character starts losing detail

If he's a super-detailed character then it's not that many (one of my characters was 80k+ in total, before any meshsmooths). Bare in mind though, it will be a pig to rig properly and probably not muh fun to work with. It's certainly a long long way from ridiculous though (unless you work on a Pentium 250 or sump :) )

okay, thanks guys. I think I might just start from scratch, this guy is probably going to be horrible to animate and animating isn't one of my strengths, so I better keep it simple.

Cheers for your replies!
