How well done is the new Gnomon DVD and is it worth the full price? I am doing a senior project (33% grade) and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this new product. If you could help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Which one? Meat's or Zack's or Alex's?

Alex's DVD just started shipping -- I don't think anyone actually has a copy yet. It should start arriving by the end of the day, but there's still eight hours of lecture to absorb, so reviews at this stage are based mostly on speculation. We need to view the content before we can review it.

Look around, though. People are somewhat opinionated about this stuff (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=208190). When there's something to say, it will be posted.

Do take even that with a grain of salt, though. Nobody's unbiased. Either we think highly of Alex's work and paid full price to see it laid bare, or we didn't buy the DVD, won't ever see it, and have nothing productive to add to the discussion.

In the meantime, tell us something about yourself, your present skill level, your budget for training materials, and the requirements of this project. When is the deadline, and how much time can you devote between now and then? Can you afford to take time off for the DVDs? What software will you be using outside of ZBrush, and how proficient are you in working between the two?

You're looking at eight hours of lecture centered around one specific project. The decisions that went into it should be explained in depth, but decisions do mean exploring one path and leaving another behind. Maybe what you needed was on the other path? I don't know. Take a look at the end result, and decide if that's someplace worth visiting. If it is, you shouldn't be disappointed.

Alex's in-person lectures at Gnomon are very highly spoke of. He's one of the more popular teachers there.
