If you mean the x-ray view... Go to View/Display options(all cameras) and check use x-ray shading in the first panel.... hoope this helps..

that reminds me of another question..
is there a way to display several frames at the time? that would be very very nice to fine tune the animation:)

nop, Ghost isn't Xray.
macoy is right. it tells you what is your last or sevral frames ahead of your animations are placing. Also where's your keyframes are

it shows you a representation of your skeletons animation for every frame. this way you can easily make sure that your animation is smooth.
( ya its not xsi. but it shows what ghosting is :)

If you want to do ghosting in XSI there is a ghosting script on my page: http://www.edharriss.com/XSIscripts/scripts_animation.htm
It's not the same as what we had in Softimage3D, but it will do till they put it in.
