Hi all!

I have just put online my latest animation. It is very short, but it took me a long time to make :)
You can watch it here:

Please feel free to give me your critiques!
Thanks all!

My Gosh!!! It looks great. The Textures and colors look fantastic. Great job. I'd like to see more.

What application did you use?

Thanks for your posts:)
I am afraid I will not continue this animation now, because it was very hard to render those 4 sec.(But it was my fault)
In fact I used maya/paraform/renderman and I had to keep high res nurbs patch on several objects(no way to export good displacement maps in paraform) so renderman started to build giant size rib files...(300 Meg per frame,100 meg for each shadow maps) So there will probably be no more...
Anyway Thanks a lot for your kind words!

Well the few seconds you had certainly looked great. Very impressive!

DUDE, that is some hot work. I have to sadly admit I had never been to your sight before. Your models are stupendous. I LOVE the details and complexity you add. As for the animation, hot, short, bit very hot. It looked like you had some good rigging setup as well. I think you should pation for some funds to get access or even build your own render farm to do some more animation with these guys.

Very Very Good. it is unfortunate you won't be able to add much more work because of the render size. But that 4 seconds is well used! I also hit your site and you have alot of good work there. I'd like to see you do that last robot in the 2D section in 3D and animate that. It looks like it would be a fun thing to animate.
Good Job. :buttrock:

You have way too much fog in the environment. It really takes away from the first scene. Nice character though.

Wow, awesome! This is one of the most unique things I've seen in a long time. I love the detail on the character, and the environment is pretty nifty as well. You mentioned that you aren't going to be continuing this animation, but I have a question: Are you going to be using this character in other animations (ie, is it the environment that is causing performance problems?)?

Hi all!

Thanks a lot for your posts and I am very happy that you liked it;)
Chrissy:I used fluid effects (in hardwre render buffer because it is impossible to render it in software)
Hookflash: the probleme is that character is too heavy in patch resolution. So I can't render him easily with renderman and I am begining to work on another monster(using maya subdivs and maya's render engine).I made this animation just to have it moving and then go on with something else.(I spent several monthes trying to understand how big studios use renderman and paraform, and I find it exhausting for the moment)
(sorry for my bad english)

Thank you very much all!

Hihi c est mortel!!! Awesome work :applause:

Very impressive work. My only critique is that when he rotates his head to look down and screen right, he doesn't blink. I'm assuming his eyes caught something down there, basically a change in focus. You should have him blink while he turns his head, it'll look more alive..... and perhaps a bit more anticipation before he puts his hand down. But...I'm being picky....;)

Awesome work....wish I could see more:cool:

Thanks a lot RIC!!! Your Troll is VERY IMPRESSIVE !Well done!

Mangaka604: You're right, the animation could have much better but I had to do it very quickly because my company moved and my computer too :) I am actually working (at home ) on another monster who will (I hope) be easier to animate.(Subdiv)
Thanks for your posts!!

Positively great work you have there. My only crit is that your character moves without a motive. I think what would really help is if you had a sort of idea or persona in mind while you animate him. Is he shy, scared, curious? I think this kind of emotion in your animation would help greatly. As far as the modeling and textureing goes, I think you nailed it. Keep up the good work.

I agree with you Whirlwind this animation still needs some work and I haven't done any facial expressions for its face... I wanted it to be curious because of a plant it found, but I am afraid I will not be able to finish it (because of my technical problems and mistackes).
Thanks for your kind words :D

je m'en doutais un peu

tres cool...

le seul truc qui me chagrine c'est l'integration du perso dans le decor...

bon un coup en anglais sinon vais me faire encore engueuler...

the only thing that bother me a little is the integration of the character and the set

6ans ?!?

I had some problem to composite the character with the fog (mask problem)because of the renderman's displacement that I could not have in maya 4.5 fluid effect render...I don't know if I am very clear...
So I agree with you too baby ;)
Et oui 6 ans... ca me fait presque peur de changer de projet...
Thanks for your posts baby :)

MukMan

Just one look at your work and I can tell there is quite a bit I dont have any clue of, how did you get so much detail into that face? (I saw the wireframe on your site.)

P. Raimbault
09-15-2002, 07:26 PM
Well MukMan, I modeled its face in Maya in polygons, then I put some bump maps in Renderman.
I am not sure to have answered to you as you expected...(and sorry for my poor english)
:D
