hey everyone, i am using Windows XP on a newly built machine with Maya 4.02 installed... but i am running into an extreemly irritating graphics glitch, while working in the hypershade window, i can get all my stuff done.. close the hypershade, and then re-open it, and it has lost all of its graphics... and the labels for the folder names... ::shrug::

here is a screen cap.. does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Thanks! :)

ahhh HA! :)

thank you A|W online knowledge base...

it was StyleXP, and it would also happen if you had any of those fancy Windows XP skins..

but in any case.. i'm glad i was able to figure it out :)

beauty over functionality... jk ;)

anyway, i just turned off the Themes process all together...

cleared up about 20 megs of memory..

if you aren't using themes.. or if you are using Windows Classic mode, do this...

Start/Control Panel/Admin Tools/Services

and browse down to Themes, and open it up, and click the stop button.. i didn't notice a different in the look of windows.. but it did unload quite a bit of ram.. =)

and if you like what happens, then make sure you set the service to Disabled, so you will just have to turn it back on manually if you want to use the themes again..

i am very glad that A|W had that tip on the knowledge base :)

Hmm, I have the same problem sometimes and I'm using Win2k, which doesn't even have themes. Does the database mention other causes to this problem?

http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/Community/Support/qualified_hardware/QUAL/maya_40_NT.html

i found my problem about half way down, this is what it says:

'Tear-off pull-down menus don't display properly on XP with UI schemes'

and it says the Solution to that is 'Switch Windows XP to Windows Classic Interface'

and thats when it hit me.. that it was StyleXP that was probably causing the problem, and thats how i figured that out..

but.. a similar problem in 2k... uhmmmm

i'm not sure.. i'd say.. make sure that Active Desktop is disabled..

uhmm... other than that.. i can't think of anything that could be graphicly effecting Maya like that.. it was a long shot that i figured out StyleXP was causing my problem.. but.. that is very strange that you are experiencing similar problems.. i'd say.. close everything, and then see if it still happens...

i know that i did run into weird graphical glitches with 3ds Max 4 in WinME.. man.. i should have just saved my money with that OS... i wouldn't even call it an OS....
