does anyone know where i can download a
hi res earth texture map
one at this res:

8192 by 4096

the one they used to have here is gone

Seems to be problem with the NASA site ... I don't think the images themselves are gone, so maybe you should eMail their webmaster.

An alternative would be the images from truearth.com (http://www.truearth.com/index.html), they are the only ones I know that map correctly on a sphere but they charge serious money for any resolution but the smallest.
