Hickory 09-12-2002, 11:15 AM This is my first entrance, reply, and 1st day of cgtalk membership...This challenge caught my eye so I figured to enter and see if i could get something to be proud of from this.
While glancing over the piece and concepts I ask you to keep in mind 3 things: Mother, House Cleaning, and Nuclear war.
I have a few different concept sketches I am working off of right now.

Here he is...Crogan....
Felt that he would feel better as a big guy who likes to throw his weight around in a game rather than the wolf type character I initially started with. As for the rabbit...any good Twisted extreme sport is going to have a rabbit carrying a rocket launcher on his back...er...maybe...
This is kinda finalized character design...Crogan's his name...greatest player to ever grace the sport...maybe...
Crits? Suggestions? Free beer?

it's good that you've given your character some background, it makes it easier to see what you're thinking.
Your concept work is first-class, so I can't really crit it at all right now. I'll be back though. Keep up the good work

Well do to a strike among the players of my Extreme Sport, work has been delayed. A small aggreement was reached with a few players, so work can resume, but slowly. Here is some progress.
Money issues have kept me from spending the time I would like, but hopefully things will improve.
Here is about an hour of work on what will be a head hopefully.

cool concept art man.
i'm curious about your modeling style... looks like a squishy ball of clay.. what do you use? is that sub-D or nurbs?
anyway the result is outstanding, can we see the control splines?

I use all Sub D/Poly. I start from a cube and immediately split it down the middle. I then just start pulling and pushing verts until I need more detail...then back to the split polygon tool. I usually do most of the really detailed tweaks in Sub D mode...I haven't done any on this one yet. Usually to get the wrinkles and lip areas really nice and detailed. Some days I make a whole hell of a lot of progress. I have done whole characters with lots of detail in around 4 hours. Sometimes it will take me weeks to get just the head done...I just don't have time right now to really sit down and work...As soon as the nose is finished, I will light him and post some renders...thanks for the interest and crits...

I'm really loving this character. Great expression, and a very cool body mass! :D
I'm thinking maybe too much wrinkle in the top of the nose though.

Thanks....I am actually going to increase the wrinkles over the enitre face to match his nose area. I want him to look beat up...he should...he should look beat to hell...especially because of the sport. I am off to day so I should be able to get a lot done...more post soon.

Concept of the platform which is key to the sport. I know that it kinda looks like the people on board are on fire and in pain, but thats not whats going on. They are cheering:) People in this universe look like they are on fire when they cheer....hehehe...sorry...

Well, work defeated me. Lack of time or lack of interest in taking the time needed...not sure what kills things first.
Well my sport was Free-fall sky-plundging.
Contestants are separated into various weight classes. The more you weigh, the higher you plundge from. Imagine a tower set up like the one used for diving in the Olympics. Some arenas have those cool repulorlift style platforms like my concept. Anyway. The rules are below.
64 contestants. 4 rounds or dives per contestant. Scores are totalled and the top 8 contestants move on to the next round. Contestants are limited to no more than 100 additional pounds of gear above the naked body weight. Type of gear is unrestricted, except nothing can be volatile or explosive.
Qualifier to the next round or dive is determined by if you survive the fall.
Contestants are judged on the difficulty of the dive and the size of the impact crater.
The guy I was modeling was named Crogan and he was the Grannd Champion of the sport.
Thats my story and I am sticking to it. Thanks to everyone who commented. I would love some critiques now if anyone has anything to add.
Later,
