"My true love... :Gustav Klimt Style
Inspired by eug3n

OK you know guys I like to experiment with the format now and then to avoid things getting too stale around here.

So, I want to try something different for today.
Let’s try to illustrate an image emulating the style of a famous painter (But it is OK if you want to ignore this rule.)

I have selected Gustav Klimt, who happens to be one of my personal heroes.
I love his work because I have always admired his strong illustration style, his great desing skills and his rock solid composition style.

He was one of the principal artists of the art noveau movement, and his work has been imitated and copiend to this day. Even in moder films (like Coppola's Dracula) you can see the influence of his style.

Check out these links below for reference purposes:

If you are not interested in this participating in this little experiment, just do the usual.

Welcome to the cgtalk sketch group.

We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* 640 x 480 / 480 x 640 OR 800 x 600 /600 x 800
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

-Roberto

I guess this style I'm trying to create is base off of his early work. I put about 5 hours work into this picture using Photoshop.

Well, I can't say it looks much like a gustav klimt. Maybe you can see the influence.

My truelove is the moon. Unsurpassed in beauty, purity, faithfulness, and unatainability.

30mins in painter.

FridayEve... Probably Klimt is one of Yours close ancestors, it is impossible in any other way to paint in such a similar, great style. Beautiful work.

Painter + Photoshop, 1.5hours. I'm not very happy bout final look of this picture, too bland and overloaded. :/

Very nicely done everyone. I didn't really manage to emulate the style of Klimt very accurately, so this is more my interpretation of it. 4 Hours - PS, Wacom.

Here's a really quick one 20 minutes, Photoshop Wacom - Now if I can just color and shade as fast as I can outline, I'd be set!

I didn't draw my gf because... well... that might not last for too much longer.

The Setting: Meeting someone at a friends wedding. Self on left.

By the way, Sir Patroclo... yours is special. I´m not sure if it is the most "klimt" around here but is indeed a very, very special drawing. Congrats.

Good stuff everyone,
it sux to miss this topic - I love Klimt's style - Egon Shiele who idolised Klimts work is awesome too - tho was much more Controversial - had a great eye for composition and proportion
Nice topic!
