hi all, i've been lurking around this site for about a year and am finally joining in.
this is my first real project... my friend had a dream in which a dimly lit run down control pannel activiated when he neared it and blared out a phrase, at which point the blade on the pannel started spinning rapidly. i still have some geometry to add, and some objects to properly place and texture (something i'm trying to learn to do now) but i thought i'd throw it out there to see how i might improve it. if you're wondering about the pulleys at the top right, i am trying to figure out how to model and animate a belt for those...

let me have it!

i suppose i should add that this is eventually going to be an animation, in which the camera closes distance, a spotlight activates to illuminate the panel and the belt and pulleys will start to spin at the same time as the blade.

i'm rendering using maya renderer and raytracing. i'd rather use dmap for the speed but the mesh under the blade wouldnt work very well with its transparency map.

if you have any ideas about the composition or methods of doing things please feel free to comment! thanks guys, you all have been my inspiration to keep going with 3d.
