Title: The Kiss
Name: David Thompson
Country: United States
Software: 3ds max, combustion, Photoshop

I've updated the catepillars. Thanks for your suggestions.

The Kiss
I've been fooling around with creating realistic fuz and hair in 3d lately and this was an image I created for one of my test.
I wanted to create a simple but interesting scene.
I used 3D Studio Max 6.0 and Combustion.
The entire scene was created in 1 day, about 5 hours of work.
What do you guys think?

I think it looks great overall. The caterpillars look a bit weird though.

Nice.

What did you use for the fuzz - Shag, Ornatrix, etc...?

Thanks.

I used Ornatrix for the hair on the catepillars and the bulb.

The caterpillars dont look like caterpillars, everything else is perfect.
May be the hair are all pointing up and need some more directions....
I have a ref for you ....

it's a great scene even if the caterpillars are not realistic..it remains 3d not photo so nevermind if they're not perfect, the light is nice...very good

I'm confused about all the comments towards the caterpillars. Where I live we have catterpillars look exactlly like that.

Great pic
Cool idea, good composition and the "hairy" effects worked really well. I'd add a bit of translucency to the leaves, tough... so the plants don't seem so... 2D, I guess...

Hi

Nice and fast wrk! But... the trunk is, like for me, too flat, and leaf necessary some sss, light is good, but a little adjust this one, make your pic cool! Aaaand background, background, background, background! The easy way, for good bckgrd, is any bitmap with blur effect, it's all.

P. S. I love quick wrk, which looks great!
P. S.' Sorry for my "splendid" english language 'n' stuff.

Regards!

i think you need some objects in the background
-if you wanted to finish it off

Nice work, man. I wounder how the catterpillars looked like before you fixed them, but that doesn't really matter :)

Anyway, there's a leaf that its connection to the stalk is a bit wierd, like twisted. It's that leaf the is toward us, that one that "touches" (not really) the button catterpillar's butt ;)

And I agree with WilliG, that the background does need some details - doesn't have to be a real 3D, and even very blurry, but something that will give us the impression there are more plants in the background - the DOF doesn't finish that fast.

Anyway, really nice

Nice work man, what plugin did you use for the fur? Ornatrix? Looks good! :)

Thanks for all the feedback.

I used combustion for some color correction and 3d blur.

I also had some trouble with multiple objects with hair when rendering so I had to render
the catepillars seperatley. However, I figured out how to get around this since then with some setting changes in Ornatrix.

Just think everybody thought hair and fur was a groundbreaking challenge, in many ways it still is, but this just shows what you can do when you get creative...

Some translucency in those leaves would be great.
I like the lighting and I don't think you need objects in the background. It's nice and clean as is, and as a personal preference, I'd leave it clean.
