View Full Version : Twisted Extreme Sports - character - MarcoPOLO
MarcoPOLO 09-12-2002, 07:50 AM I just finished school, and loved the topic of this new challenge, so after lurking around this site for months, I've finally decided to enter.
Anyways, I just started this character a couple days ago, and you can probably already make a pretty good guess at how the sport works. I'm also testing out this new toonshader - haven't really seen a good one for Maya yet though.
Well, crits welcome, any advice on character design, etc.

nice, I like the boot-devices, and the entire model. I'm guessing it's a ball game that can be played on the walls and/or ceiling.
Keep going m8, it's looking good so far.

Thanks guys, and drunkenmaster20, your guess is close, but not quite right yet =)
Anyways, I'm not quite sure where to go with the design right now.....any suggestions???

Thats a strangely shaped ball - is this some type of rocket-boot propelled rugby, or something like that?
Cool model so far - he looks really funky :D But perhaps he will be requiring a lot more protective clothing??

LOL, you're all getting pretty close, but not right on the money yet. I've added some eyegear, but come to think of it now, this guy might get a little battered up without some more gear.
well, back to work

Some updates:
Adding details to model, gave him some backpack thing to power his "hover boots", various other details. not sure if i should go with a cartoony style of texturing - basic colors, toon shader, or if i should go all out realistic - suggestions plz.
anyways, here's the latest:

looking very nice there, marco. As for colouring/rendering, i'm not sure. not knowing what you have in mind for either method makes it hard for me to pick. It would be nice to see it in a final-fantasy-esqe almost-realism style, but it would also be good to see it as raw manga-style. A tough choice.

one more pic.
Well, i'm still not sure what to do, though I'm looking at a picture of Rikku here =D and thinking it would be really cool in that style.

latest updates, plz tell me if you like it or not - my texturing experience is not that great, and I spent half the time just trying to unwrap the damn UV's!!! Anyways, plz post your C&C's.
btw, eRaDiCaT0r the model is pure polygons smoothed out. (except for the laces, had to go nurbs there for texturing purposes1 =D)

Looking very nice.................I like the real exxagerated features of your character, the toon look. Now just keep un-wrapping those UV's..........They are worth it in the end............
For me I would still go with the more realistic textures look ..................the blend or difference with the usual toon shaders I think would add to the originality of your creation. So far it is one of the more interesting and nicer creations of this challenge, keep it up........:applause: :)
