Title: The Castle
Name: Andrew Suryadi
Country: Indonesia
Software: 3ds max, Photoshop
Hi all, this image is done in max 7 and photoshop for post prod. I kept the model simple as the main purpose for this scene is to play with texturing and lighting that has a fantasy feel on it.
Any comment and crits are highly appreciated here. Thanks for viewing.

This is looking really beautifull! I think you did a great job!
I wonder if you built everything in max or is the foilage added in photoshop? Is the background painted or 3D? Please show wire so we can see how it was built!
But once again it has really lovely colors in it!

i like it!
may be a bit pink to me but I do like it.
The stones of the walls are sometimes a little bit flat.
What is 3D? Are the foreground plants 3D or painting?
Bravo!

Fluke73, Thanks for your kind word:). The castle is built in 3d, the foliage is only a texture, I got it from Total Texture V10 as you can see in this image below. The background is matte painted from my stock photo (clouds and mountain) and also with some background image from newest Total Texture V14 which I think will be release very soon in this february.
JCFrog, Thanks!:) glad to know you like it. Thanks for mentioning about the wall. All the foreground plant is a texture, actually plane with texture on it, a simple trick..hehe:D.
here's my progress image, hope it can answer all of yours question.:)

I love the lighting and the soft colors. I think you achieved your goal of creating a fantasy style illustration. Very, very nice!
I wonder though whether it would be better to change the camera angle a bit so that instead of looking down on the castle we would be looking up at it (or maybe we could be on about the same level). From this angle it just seems a little bit small to me - but maybe that's just me. :)
But I really like this image anyway; very nice work!

Really a nice castle! I'd like to live in there ;)
For my taste, the colors of the stones are a bit to red and the bridge is a bit thick.

The only gripe (because the image looks very beautiful) is the texture around some of the openings in the walls. For example the tower on the right has a large vertical slot which seems to have been cut out after the stones were laid. The stones would have been laid in place to create the opening rather than the slot cut out afterwards. The bottom of the slot looks correct, but the top looks cut out. I would assume that there should be a stone right at the top as there is at the bottom. Wonderful work though.

Cool Palette. nice colours. Great castle. I think the walls are a little too smooth. Perhaps a displacement map or the like will improve it no?
