Hi all,

I started by modeling a head, and now that I thought of continuing with the inside of the mouth (tongue, teeth, and throat) I am somewhat confused as to how am I going to do with the UV Mapping? I mean to say, it seems to me it could turn into a nightmare trying to UV Map the whole head along with its mouth inside (but then again, I just learnt to UV Map).
So my dilema is: should I make the mouth as part of the head? Or should I make it as a separate entity?

Thanks in advance for you reading,

You can keep it part of the same model, just map it separetly.

Sorry, I don't have more time right now to respond in more detail.

If you keep it part of the same model then when ur finished modelling u can map each individual part separately at the sub object level. Thus applying different UVWs to all the separate parts.

I usually do this by selecting the polys and then assigning the UVW map modifier and so on for each separate part (collapsing the mesh as i go). It can also be done using unwrap UVW modifier.

You would then give each a different part a sub object material id (sub object level - surface properties rollout).

The next step would be to assign a multi/sub object material. EAch slot in the mat has a number which will corresspond to ur model once applied.

Hope this helps

Wow! These were some pretty quick replies :)
Thank you both for your advices, both very useful :) - catbells007, visualboo

I'll will take it from here, if I stumble on something more specific along the way I'll post again :)

You could also make the mouth interior etc. as a seperate model, then map it and all, and finally attach it to the main head model. Then the materials that you have put on the mouth and the head will be combined into a multi-sub object material.
It'd make modelling the mouth interior and mapping it easier, I think.
