Here's our link to our "Project Page" which is full of animations and pics. It's still pretty early in production so don't spend too much time commenting on... shadows and things like that. BUt if you have some ideas we'd like to hear them. I know the ... snowtrooper shot in ACT III.. has strange lighting. We're waiting for somebody else to come along and fix that up.

We have this one shot planned also of snowtroopes disembarking an ATAT. Something original and never seen before. SO... if anybody is interested in working with us on some of these and other shots write me.

This is one that has been going on for like 3-4 years. What we want to do know is redo all the buildings. For such a long period of time things change a lot. The buildings now look dated and low on detail. We never did find an animator to help us make birds fly in the shot. And we've tried many many techniques for waterfalls. It's been at least a year since we've tried any new ways to do this. I just looked at somebodys animation here this week that had excellent waterfalls and lava. Hopefully he'll email us back and give us some tips about his method. I think we'll redo the lighting on this one too.

This one I think is pretty good. I'd just like to see the lighting and atmosphere better.

Yea. It's some pages I threw together real quick and hosted on our server. It was meant to show the "team" what other people were doing and how the project was coming along. I thought I'd share it with the world to hopefully drum up some interest b/c we could use some help.

My favorite part is how it says,

"Remember, this is a private page. Do not share with anyone."

LOL!
Or the :We don't want people to see what we're doing or steal any of our ideas. Thanks.
"Our" ideas?
Made me laugh!
You got a lot of broken links on the site.

Yea.... it was private... I opened it up to see if there would be any interest in the project. I didn't want to edit the page and change it all just to open it up to people briefly. But I have to say I'm disappointed with the lack of response and it'll probably go back to being private.

Geez!Soorrry!

I think The main thing is having to navigate through your website. For some reason your links are wierd.

Looks like you have a big project on your hands, good for you! And good luck too.

Hello SCIFI-3d-zoo,

Sorry, my intention wasn't to poke fun. It just tickled my funny bone that a site that is being linked to from here talks about how it's a secret and shouldn't be shared with anyone, when it's being shared with the entire internet.

I would love to give you critiques and pointers on the animation presented on your site, but honestly, I couldn't find a single animated movie. The top page you link to doesn't have any that I could find. I traveled one page deeper and didn't see anything. And when I found a link to a .avi file, it was broken. I tried a second page and a second .avi and it was also a broken link.

So if you'd like a critique of the animation there, perhaps you can help me help you by posting direct links to the .avi files. I'm a big SW fan and would like to see what you have been up to.

And again, I appologize if I made you feel as if you were being made fun of. It wasn't my intention.

Don't be upset with the lack of responses.

Your links to the avi files don't work. I haven't been able to see anything from these links so I have nothing to respond to. Please give us good links to the movie files and I think we'd all be very interested in seeing what you have going on

http://www.scifi3d.com/SOTSprojectpage/ACT_III/Yavin/yavin.html (full of animations)

http://www.scifi3d.com/SOTSprojectpage/ACT_III/Hoth/hoth.html (has one animation, I never did get the other one)

http://www.scifi3d.com/SOTSprojectpage/ACT_III/Endor/endor.html (includes almost final animation)

http://www.scifi3d.com/SOTSprojectpage/ACT_III/VaderFuneralPyre/pyre_animtest04.avi (final anim)

A whole lot of the other things are in the two trailers that are available... but NOTE... they were made like 4 years ago and are dated in some respects... like Yoda. We're basically just looking for a few good animators who want to work on this project. It's hard to find people who can do character work.. and almost as hard to find someone who can do just regular animation well.

I must be missing something obvious. Once I click on those links, how do I see the movies?

Just gave it another try!

Your webpage is wacky...I keep getting directed back to the scifi3d page when I click the link to the avi.

***BUT, if you highlight the address in the address bar-then hit enter you can get the avi to play...Not sure why this is.***

The Bespin.avi worked...Looks like a simple path animation. Kinda flat. Buildings are lo-rez looking...like a game.
Some of the flybys from Act three-YAVIN looked pretty cool, nice work on the ships and good lighting.
I think you are looking for a general criteque, am I right? Cause I cant really say to much about the animation..I mean spaceships are not to difficult to animate are they? I would have posted this in a different forum...Some of the renders are really good, I mean the lighting and textures are super...Also some insane modeing.

I missed out on the ones that are windows media and the Divx have some artifacts from compression...Wish you would use Quicktime!

Nice work. Oh what could have been!

I was using the "url link" button but it does the same thing as me just pasting them. For me... it loads media player or whatever... OR you can just right-click save. I don't have any problems. They're just normal links. Some people did use DIVX yes. But there shouldn't be any other funky codecs used.

Yea... I was kinda disappointed by the look of the buildings too in Bespin. I'm not sure if those are the same ones that were newly made a year ago though. If you look on SCIFI 3D in the WIP section... or use the search box for Cloud City or Bespin.. you'll see there are much better versions of some buildings... but I'm not sure if they were used here. It doesn't look like it. Maybe it's the lighting... or some sorta grain pass or something. I'd really like to finish this shot but it's on the backburner now.

Guy who was working on Yavin was doing great. Looks as good as the THX Trailer on our site. Problem is... he was working in LW and doesn't really like to animate so he moved on. Shame b/c he's really good at it. He really preferred to model but we have so much already modelled on the site we need animators.

I will note that in the future. In the past I didn't have any requirements on animation format... just resolution. But I'll try to get people to make QT available too.

Problem with character work is... it's hard to find people who can model characters, rig them, animate them, etc. And this whole thing started about 4 years ago and the tools have gotten much better. Way back then... I was worried about somebody being able to animate a Luke/Vader fight in 3D.... so we purposely tried to avoid facial animation, dialogue (which also presents voice over talent issues), etc. So you'll notice in our trailers most of the character is very simple for a lot of reasons... not to mention the guy doing most of the animating couldn't do much better. I'm trying to learn more about Motionbuilder myself so I can help.

So far I can only view two of them. I'll keep trying.

The funeral pyre looks just awesome!! Good work man.

The Bespin scene is pretty good too. I love the city. That looks good. The spline path starts abruptly and then slows down. It's a bit jarring. The X wing also seems kinda like it's on a path too. It moves too smoothly and could also be a bit faster. But overall I like it. Fix those things and it'll be killer!

Roguenroll: We've been online with TFN since 1999. We've been heavily involved in a lot of places like SCIFI-MESHES... "tried" to collaborate with LWG3D.org. We've posted things here at CGtalk for a couple of years but it is easy to get lost in the crowd here. But we've been around for quite awhile and freely offered 99% of our models to others... just for that purpose. To help others with their fan films and act as a resource for the community.

Now i think about it.... we've been having some server problems lately with the "main" site. Maybe that is affecting this too.

I can't see any of the movies either. Every time I click on a link that is supposed to show me a movie or avi, it takes me to the same page. The url in the address bar is always what it's supposed to be, it just doesn't do anything. This is a snapshot of what I see...

www.toddelliott.com/vector/SCIFI3D.jpg (http://www.toddelliott.com/vector/SCIFI3D.jpg)

As you can see, the url is correct, no? But images doen't load and nothing begins playing. I'm running WindowsXP and Internet Explorer 6.

Hope this helps. I'd love to see the movies.

Well... I guess I picked a really bad time to post this stuff. They just moved all the TFN servers and it's causing havoc with the site b/c it's 100% ASP-driven. Did you try just right-click saving?
