View Full Version : 3dsm or photoshop
Xilica 09-11-2002, 11:10 PM could this image be made in 3dsm 5? this is a yes or no question, thanks...if it was, could someone tell me some modifiers, i don't need the specific steps, also, when creating a star, is using the flat star then beveling it the best way to go? thanks.

looks like it was made in PS. I don't think it was made in max, because why would he spend so much time in max making a star when he could very easily make it in photoshop in about 1/4 of the time.

I would use Illustrator to make that personally, nothing special really. :)

yes it could be done in max 5. It would be a hell of a lot easier as himizu said to do it in photoshop though. But if you did want to for some reason, I'd create the star as a spline, use bevel to give it depth, give it a planar map for the top & separate the top by material ID, give the sides planar mapping & separate those ID's, copy the whole thing, to give you the blue level, apply multi/sub materials to each, tweak them to get them looking like that. Then your going to have to get your camera set up & apply a skew modifier to it, tweaking for ages until you end up with that incorrect perspective look (see the sides are straight? thats not how max will automatically make it - it will have the sides perspectivly correct, getting smaller towards the bottom)

However you make that image you would want it to be vector, since it's a logo. I don't know how to render these vector gradients from max (maybe Illustrate plugin could output something similar). I'd say Illustrator or freehand are the right tools for that.

Anyone know of any good tuts in photoshop that teach to make stars? I know how to use the 3d render, but to make stars doesn't it involve anchor points etc..?

use the shape tool. it has a star as one of the preset shapes

Himizu is right, use the star preset in the shapes palette, and then you could always use scale and such to distort the shape. Still say illustrator would be the simplest if you have access to it.
