One of the simcloth downloads contains the simcloth helpfile. It covers just about everything possible with simcloth.

I can't remember if it says so in the tutorials or if I picked it up somewhere else, but Simcloth can be used fairly spiffy-like if you take a three-sided cylinder, do the SimCloth magic, and then meshsmooth it afterwards. These three-sided cylinders takes very little time to calculate, and you can easily strengthen the settings to make it very soft-body like. And with the meshsmooth at the top the cylinder ends up round and smooth just the same.
I used it once to make some tube-plant-thingies that lives underwater. When told to, SimCloth can deliver very nice soft-body results :)
But as I said, idunno if all of this is already covered in the manual, been a while since I looked.

How do you make three-sided cylinders?

The beauty of a 3 sided cylinder is that it can not collapse. So, you can have cables hanging off objects or even connected between two other objects. A mouse cable for example, where the mouse moves around and drags the cable, can easily be done with simcloth.
It's one of the best freebies ever.

Namroth: make a cylinder, set its sides to "3".
Put in sufficient heigh-segments, just start with something reasonable that isn't three digits large and go from there, and simulate away.
