View Full Version : WIP Ferrari testarossa KOENIG
diffa 02-01-2005, 10:01 AM I just started to make this low poly ferrari testarossa koenig. I've been modelling it now for about 1,5 hours. Poly count so far is 4090. I'm trying to stay below 5500 polygons. Here's some pictures. Critics please!

Hi Diffa. Maybe you could try merging some of those polys to reduce your count. Be ruthless and find all the unwanted polys and kill them. I would loose the modeling detail of the tail lights and just use a bump map later on. Hope this helps

Little update! poly count way too high 8300! So there are 2800 polys too much. I'm going to merge polys to reduce the count. But I'm pretty satisfied with the work I've done in a couple hours. Here's the finale model. I'm don't think that I'm going to add anymore details.

Update! I merged some polys and here's the result 4790 polygons!!! I like it. I'm not gonna remove any detail any more. I removed the rims, there was too many polys. So I made the rims out of texture. It's looking good and I still have over 800 polys left.

holy mother o god!! 8300!! you did well to get rid of those polies.. what's goin on at the rear!? think about what the texture map could handle, lights/doors ect (like you've done with the wheels).. if it doesn't really affect the siloheutte, you dont need it. also, maybe you could think about tidying your edg-flow.
still a very nice car

Thanx all for your comments! It's allways nice to get some critics.
I'm going to use textures in lights/doors etc, but I don't really wanna remove any detail. So I think I'm gonna leave the rear as it is.

The mesh looks quite messy, there are a lot of polys that you could kill. I'm guessing you used booleans to cut out the windows, right? I use that too sometimes :) It does require some cleaning after the you use it though.
For example, here is how you could get rid of a lot of polys and get that straight line of the Testa.

The areas circled with green are pretty messy and have a lot of polys you could get rid of.
keep at it

I fixed the rear. Here's the result. Poly count is 4782. DeathtTrip I didn't use booleans for the windows. The car is one big mesh.

Sorry, but It looks like you don't read the comments, or just don't follow them up
At some points you don't have to have much poly's (like the rearback of your car) and there you should just cut them away.
Try to get a decent mesh, with straigt lines, then you'll see the final model will be much cleaner to look at.
And some things, like the grill on the back, can easly be a bump map, so you don't have to waste your polygons there.

Hmm...If I have max poly count of 5500 and my poly count is now 4782 or less, why should I remove any more of the detail??? I know that's there are more than enough tris in the rear, and it looks kinda messy. But still if I go and remove, lets say like 100-200 polys from the rear it's gonna start affect on the model. And I'm not talking about the grill on the back.

MUCH better. Those other meshes were really messy.
I thing that sticks out to me is that the wheel wells look pretty boxy, maybe give them a chamfer or two.

Thanx DeathTrip! I know, that the tyres/rims are really boxy, but now when I'm under 2000 tris I would like to keep it that way. So I really don't have much tris to spare. Well maybe I can go as high as 2500 tris, but that's the top.
