View Full Version : Material Ids for Pcloud?

Trying to add random mat id's to a particle cloud. I have a "stack" of instanced planes emitting from an object - need 20 or so ids.
Is this not possible?

"Material by element" modifier doesn't do it.

Thanks,

PCloud seems to work different then the rest of the particles systems. Seems that each new material ID only gets added to the birth of a new particle on differnt frames. In other words... All particles on frame 0 get 1 material ID then all particles born on frame 1 get a new material ID and so on. If you change the Emit Stop: to a higher value and slide through the frames you will see the new materials show up on the new particles that are born. If you don't want any particles being born during the animation I guess you could set the Emit Start: to a negative value so that all the particles you need will be born before frame 0.

This doesn't seem to be working with instanced particles. Looks like it does with any other type....

Animation and frame time doesn't matter - this is for a still shot.

If it is just a still shot then you could set up the particle system the way you want it to look and then use Snapshot... under the tools menu to turn it into an Editable Mesh. Then apply the MaterialByElement to it.

Swiss. Thanks. I thought that tool was part of particle studio. Man, that is nice.
