View Full Version : 350 tri Female Fighter
bronzefish 01-31-2005, 09:34 PM I got so inspired by everybodys very-low-poly modelling so I thought I would make one myself. I made the model in max 7, it ended up around 350 tris, and the texture in photoshop, 256x256 pixles.
I haven't tried rigging it yet, so I don't really know how it will deform. That will be an interesting experience.
Critiques are very welcome!

hey, welcome to the (almost) 300 club! a few things:
if your low poly model is going to be fairly small on-screen, those skinny limbs will practically disappear. a lot of the other low polys being posted have the same problem - i like to exaggerate the features of my low poly models to ensure that the silhouette is faithful at a variety of zoom levels.
I would either add 2 extra tris to the back of her elbows, or else sort of "pre-deform" the joint - i.e. move the inner vertex closer to the shoulder, and the outer vertex closer to the hand - because at it is (without special vertex weighting) her forearm will collapse completely if she bends it 90 degrees.
I think you could probably lose 5 tris off each breast.
Also, for low poly game art it is much more informative to post your model with a triangle count, rather than a polygon count!
You could probably lose the triangles that form the collar of the armor without affecting the silhouette too.

nice work! I like how you've textured the hair and face. maybe if you had time you could put her in a chainmail skirt or something, cause I think that would stylise the design more and make it even better! also, might just be me but I think the breast geometry could use a slight touch-up (no pun intended) and you should definately slap some edge-cuts in around the limb joints.
low poly sooo rocks.. :buttrock:

Thanks guys for the constructive critiques! I will try to change those geometry things you have mentioned including the thickness of the legs, and maybe add some more pieces to the armor.
As for the geometry count, I meant to write 350 tris, like I wrote in the title. :)

I made the changes you mentioned, and it turned out like this:
