View Full Version : Messia:Studio+SILO Combo or Lightwave Update?
Shazam3D 01-31-2005, 10:43 AM I'm working in a local television channel in Las Palmas (Spain), and we have an old (5.6) license of Lightwave.
Newtek offers a new price to update from any previous version: 295 euros; in the other hand, the SILO+Messiah:Studio Workstation Combo is very tempting too (408 $ - 307 euros).
I would like to know what do you thing about the best choice.
thanks in advance

Well, it depends on what you're going to be rendering, really. I use Silo, messiah as well as LW. And although LW is showing it's age, it still has things like volumetric effects (Hypervoxels), post effects (glow, etc...), plus a million plugins to fill in all the gaps.
Silo is a great app, but doesn't replace LW's modeler - there are still some features missing. But it's a great supplement for sure. messiah is a very able renderer with features that LW still has yet to implement natively like SSS effects, subpoly displacements. But it lacks a comparable particle system to LW, Hair/Fur, Volumetrics, Post Effects, Rigid Body dynamics, etc...

Thank you, Chikega. Now I'm thinking in the XSI Foundation option too...
