The metal is brilliant. I think it could do with some "dirt" though.. it looks a bit too clean...

Fantastic looking ornate antique teapot. When I read the topic title I almost didn't look perhaps you should jazz that up a little :)
The only thing that bothers me a little about it is the reflection in the surface, it just looks a little odd considering what is behind the teapot, perhaps something more abstract like distorted lighting!?
I agree with the comment on the smoothness of the surface perhaps just some very light scratches from years of polishing and possibly some blotching on the metal work from erosion.
However excellent teapot, very nicely done with lots of surface details in its design.

woow, you did all those detail modeling?
great reflection too. I never able to setup metal ray to do that kind of shiny look.
do you mind teaching me how do you do it? rendertree? settings?

It is not just shiny, but a realistic shiny, very nice job.
Thanks for your feedback, yes I used HDRI for that (good old kitchen.hdr:))
The setup in xsi is quite straightforward: Use the cubic hdr map you'll find on paul's site www.debevec.org (just checked.. his hdr probe page is currently down... hmm) convert that to xsi's own hdr format (.map) with hdrtoxsi (from http://www.xsiturkiye.com/temp/hdrtoxsi.exe, currently down aswell.. hmmmmm).
Then make a huge cube in xsi, apply a constant material, link the color param to the image with some default flat xy projection. Afterwards tweak uv's in the texture editor until the map fits onto the cube (might be some work..)
The teapot's material is nothing special, just pale yellow strauss material with default specularity/ambient and 70% reflection.
That's all there is.. if anybody should find a copy of the hdrtoxsi.exe please post the link here!

I used a diferrent lighting (and a more silver-like material) here, which one is better?

I definitely prefer the first.
When silver slightly oxidises it gets colour like that in the first image, the first image looks much more real to me. The second is too silver.
for the look of silver I prefer the second but not on the legs, perhaps apply a slightly altered shader for the legs, something about their geometry is makign them look/shade differently.
also maybe look into designing your shader to put that typical silver corrosion in the grooves. Not sure how that would be done, I'm kind of new to this area of xsi, perhaps evaluating near surface normal direction is possible or something with incidence shader...
