View Full Version : text turns into dust/shards
hiya, im trying to create and effect were a text turns into dust/shards - similar to the a Tutorial on the Gnomon-Workshop website: http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/tu...vs_uniform.html (http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials/gravity_vs_uniform/gravity_vs_uniform.html). then from the dust/ shards reforms into another word, sectence etc. im fairly new to maya, and have been trying unsucessfully to create this effect. this example probably explains it better Renascent : http://www.renascent.nl/motion.htm and the the Example im am talking about is Called : Progressive/Retrograde (http://www.renascent.nl/m1.htm) (Hope link works. if not the links in the menu). hope somebody can help me see the light . if anyone needs anymore info links etc let us know
C. ( sorry about posting 2 of the same msg)

hey dude - I think alot of that you could put together in after effects as the actual 3d geometry isn't that heavy (if any!). A few subtle camera moves and the like and yer laffin!
Theres a couple of plugins that should create that effect for you - digitalararchy.com should have something up on their site but you should be able to put it together with the tools straight out of the afx box :)
doing that in maya is gonna be highly restrictive when it comes to tweaking the text - imagine having to create that kind of ident/anim numerous times over for various tv spots n idents throughout a season!

doing this in maya is quite challenging and needs some good knowlede of maya particles and scripting.
for stuff like that exists a bunch of plugins but i think none for maya.
most i saw like that was done in max, because there are plugins that do exactely that by the punch of a button.
doing stuff like that in 2d might work as well in some apps (think there are plugins for fusion and after fx afaik)
-> i spoke to the guy who created it and he said it was in max.
i have tried to create a 2 similar emitters as the the one in the Gnomon tute one that would distribute the particles and one as a goal- the goal however being the reverse so the particles would be distributed evenly across the surface (hope that makes sense).anyway alexx would it be achieveable in maya or am i pushing s**t up a hill, are there any tips or hints. also if anyone knows what the AE plugins are called, let us know.
PS. this has nothing to do with the subject, but you know Alias Ducan Brimsmead banner, i was wondering, if the images that are shown are animated or are just paintings, just curious?
