I wasn't sure if this was announced some time ago, but i just thought it was worth mentioning. Was at the London XSI user group on Thursday. The Mill were showcasing their XTOR (XSI to renderman) plugin. Think they are gonna release it in a few months. Looks really cool. Its got support for Pixars Renderman, and 2 of the others too.
No need for Slim. You can work exactly the same was as normal in XSI with the rendertree. Once you get the exact result your after, you can convert your scene into a RIB and then render it. The results from Mental Ray inside of XSI to renderman seem 99% identical. Some slights differences for obvious reasons with sub's, displacements and motion blur. External shaders are supported too.
I think its kinda neat too that you can use different version of renderman. Pixars version is great for some things, but not so great out of the box at raytracing. So you can mix and match. Also good that if you carnt afford RM, you can use the free flavours that are around.
Cheers,
Dan.
