Just did this to test out my skills before I work on a much larger project I have planned to include Martial Arts, some solo and some sparring. I used myself and a mirror for reference since i've been learnin it for about a year now. Its the most basic form you learn in class.

Much love to the Lowman people for the rigging script cuz i still suck at that.

Critiques VERY welcomehttp://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

hey kyklos,

nice work. i'm not a skilled enuf animator to give much advice on that end, but i do know that form very well and would suggest that you get some more power/snap behind the kick. it looks more like a giant step rather than a kick, maybe it just needs a few frames pause or something.
anyway.... great job. i really need to practice animating, and you have inspired me to get back at it.....THANK YOU!

by the way, where do you train? and what style are you learing?

thanks,
kungfudork

I like the poses, and it looks like you've put a lot of attention into the details. Perhaps you want to look more closely at the timing of it... it seems to be going the same speed the whole way through. You might want to try using slow-in and slow out; ease the character into the action and then snap it forward as he's kicking (for example) and then slow it down again after he lands.

I've only just begun animation, so that's the only solid piece of advice I can give (because it's been given to me lots :D )

The Timing (keyframes) look spot-onóbut the Spacing (transitions between keyframes) just needs a bit of tweaking: I agree with kungfudork, it needs more snap to the poses.
Try this: select a keyframe and in the Graph Editor, Break Tangents. Then, set the incoming tangent to Linear and the outgoing tangent to Flat. That should give the keyframes a bit more snap.

Hey guys thanks a ton for the input. I agree with the "snap" thing but just couldn't figure out how to fix it without doin tons of work over. Thanks anim8it i'll try that:).

For now here's a front orthographic view of the same maybe you guys can catch some other stuff i didn't.
