Hey all,
Today I noticed that my rear speakers were no longer working, i don't know when they stopped working exactly, as the front ones kept working fine, and I could have just not noticed only the rear ones working before. Anyways, I updated my audio drivers (onboard audio) but still can't get my rear speakers to work above an absolute whisper. I've fiddled around with the volume controls for the rear, but with them at full, and the others set to just above 0, the rear speakers still only come out as a whisper. When testing the surround speakers, with Soundman, a program that comes iwht the drivers, the rear speakers DO work, and their volume is related to how I have them set up, ie, very loud compared to the front, from my test.

If anyone has any suggestions for this, please speak up. I doubt it's my drivers, seen as they work in the test, so I know the speakers do work aswell. I've set my default playback device as the AC'97 (onboard one) and have my speaker configuration set up to 5.1 (front, centre, rear and sub).

Any help would be appreciated, this is really starting to bug me :(

Is it nForce onboard sound? Download latest drivers from Nvidia. Now, where do you not get sound, Winamp? If it's Winamp, then you go to Options->Preferences->Output. Select DirectSound Output, and click Configure. From the drop-down box, select AC97 or nVidia nforce or whatever you use, and under it is a checkbox that says "Allow Hardware Acceleration", so just click it, click Apply, and restart winamp.... That'ss of course, if you were trying to play music and rear speakers didn't work. If DVD player, then there should be an allow hardware acceleration options somewhere in the DVD player preferences. Same for games, but you should download latest game update.
