Hi to all, recently i switched my pc desktop for a mac but it came with just 256 mb, and since Mac memory here in Brazil is very expensive plus i`ve heard that this kind of usage of pc memory could be done i got myself wondering if it was true....

Sorry if this question have been asked before, but anyway would appreciate a lot any info regarding it. THX in advance. :)

Pedro,

It's all the same memory.

You can use PC3200 (DDR400) memory in all G5s, and can get away with PC2700 in the first 1.6 and 1.8ghz single processor tower models -- although I wouldn't recommend it.

You'll need to install the memory in pairs of chips at a time in PowerMac G5 towers -- you can do singles in iMac G5s, though.

Hope this helps.

It's all "PC memory", but you still have to get the right type of memory for the computer you are using. The manual should say what type of memory is required.

just use pc memory. I'm just not sure if the g5 with 4 memory banks use dual channel memory access. it might be enough using 1 bar.

you should buy in pairs.
It's required.

To re-interate, in G5 towers, it *is* required to add RAM in pairs of chips at a time -- in iMac G5s, you can add them singly.

Because you didn't specify which type of G5 you had, I mentioned both. Sorry for any confusion... :(

It's also important to know if it is a single CPU powermac in a tower

or an imac that looks like a desk lamp.

If it's a tower case then it requires RAM in pairs.

if it's a desklamp iMac then you can add 1 at a time.
