HA HA, I shown my friend (Ceccoti or however you spell his username, real name is Josh by the way) laughed at me when I shown him my low poly model. He is like "Not you too" I really don't know why Cg Talk broke out into a low poly modeling phase, but I have to say thanks, cause this was and is going to be a fun little project.

My goal is to create 3 - 4 low poly gangster's from the 50's (or whenever they were BIG) and maybe 1 car :) I would like to texture them as well.

Anyways, here is my first character, I am actually almost done with this one. I know the face is higher poly then it should be, but I am trying to practice on my faces as well :) I hope you enjoy :)

I enjoy, I enjoy. :D He just needs a baseball bat or some brass knuckles. I, personally, would remove the hat since it doesn't seem to fit well with the rest of the character. He's got his sleeves rolled up and his collar open, he looks like he's about to make somebody an offer they can't refuse. Give him a coat to hang over his shoulder or arm, though, and I think the hat would work quite well.

The topology is (from what I can see) pretty nice. You might get some weird deformation in the elbows, but I'm sure you can take care of that. The face looks excellent.

Hey dude, thanks for the comment, I think i will keep the hat on him, for now that is. The baseball bat is an AWSOME idea, and I will use that :)

I am making another character, a bigger guy, with a trech coat, who is carrying a tommy-gun, so hopfully that will tickle your fancy :)

Small little update guys and girls, put the cigar in his mouth, the bat (hence the name) and I fixed up the joints :)

http://img169.exs.cx/img169/9875/gangsterprev13eb.jpg

I will unwrap him, and texture, then start on the new guy.

Should i use a 512 or 256 map?

i suggest a 256 map for face and 256 for body as well, gives more leeway

sorry for the double post, but jason i was looking at your profile (im nosey) and i saw you post a question about colleges that offer programs in ontario. I have been looking myself but unfortunatly i cant afford it and my academic grades are not sufficient enough (notice the spelling =P) but there is a college in Ontario, i think its close to Oaksville, its called Sheridan. This is one of the best colleges in not only Ontario, but around the world, Pixar and disney both shop there for potential. Unfortunatly the cost of these courses range in the 5 figures, 15,000 and up. Im stubborn, but i have a firm belief if youd like to get your foot in the door do whatever you can with mods, skins anything with communities and so forth. There are for more talented people on these forums but i gave it a go and e-mailed a contractor from THQ, and i got the job. The only way i got this job though is because of a previous mod i had worked on and on top of that the work i showed him. Any sort of freelance work be it free or paid is good, try and get on a mod team, it helps loads.

If you got any questions you can hit me up with a PM, i live in Montreal if your curious how i know about Ontario and colleges.

Now back to the model, looking good!!!

Hey glad to hear g0st, I am in my second last year of high school (half of the year is done already) and I am still trying to find a college that offers what I am looking for.

Sheridon is one that i was looking at, but it is more art, drawing etc. I am looking for game deisgn, such as the one in Burnaby B.C. Art Institute of Vancouver. But the cost o go there is 25k plus living expenses, and although (if I wanted to go there) we would find a way to pay, Ben Mathis had told me that it would be a waste of money, and I would be in debt for awhile.

So if you have MSN Messeneger, I would love to talk to you some more, and glad to hear you got the job dude, how is it?

*Back to the model*

I just finished unwraping, and yeah, lets see how it goes :)

hehe, cool

Allthouhg his upper body is lent back to far, looks like he is dodgeing something or even is just about to fall over.
Face is very dense compared to the body, so the distribution isnt to good. I donīt understand why you have cut the bat into 3 pieces.

Other than that, cool

I HOPE these textures are ok, I am not happy with some things, and as you can notice, I screwed up when I was unwrpaing, and only notcied it about 2/4/s into the texturing. As you can see, the cigar is over sized, that was suppose to be the bat size, but now the bat is SMALL, so that was a mess up :)

I think (sadly) this is prob my best texturing job, HA HA, I am still trying to find a good tut on face texturing, and I am looking at bobo's right now, and I can't understand that with a 64 x 64 texture map, BOBO can still make the face SO detailed, I do not understand :(

Anyways, without further ado, here it is :)

Looks good to me but i think you should delete the blood on his cloth.

Keep up the good work.

I was actually thinking about deleting the blood, but I am going back and forth with that idea :(

model looks pretty good, but texture needs a lot more depth painted on the color map, since this is a game character.
If you're going to paint the blood on his shirt, then it needs much more detail than a few bursts of airbrush.
Work on the details.

*ATTENTION*
If anyone is interested, please read on.

Ok so now that I have your attention, I have been thinking. Considering that we don't see to many Gangster mods out there (RTS kind) I was thinking this idea would be some what of a breather from those futuristic shooters.

I was thinking that if I could get a team together, maybe we could put our heads together and think of an idea for a mod, preferable, a gangster mod. I already have some characters picked out etc. But I would need more, and a team to fufil that :)

Now I know I bounce from one mod to a next, and it sucks, cause I know it is a pain in the buttock to see someone not doing anything for the mod, so maybe that may turn all of you off, but I will try my very best (if anyone is interested in this idea) to keep with it. Now right now, I have 1 character fully modeled, fully textured, and fully rigged ready for animation, and if anyone is interested, it would be really cool to get this dude animated.

SO if I have gotten any of you people interested so far, then read on, if not, there is an update at the bottom of this post.

Some Things to Think About
Hazaa, so anyone who is interested, keep on reading.

So probably one of the first things that really needs to be thought about, is what game we will mod, the choices I have thought of supposedly arn't the easiest to mod :(

2 choices I had in mind are:

Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
Warcraft 3

Or, maybe we could mod it on a different engine like unreal engine (use ut2004) or anything else, I just want it to be not a pain in the butt to get working.

Second thing to really think about, is the story. I have some what of a starter, it is kinda cliche, but hey, what isn't these days. I was thinking of naming the mod "Buddy" who is the "main" characters nickname. Basiclly it is about this young guy getting into the "buisness" of being a gangster, and how he works his way up to the boss. Again, I know it is cliche, and the diea has 9/10 been done in a movie before, but it seems like it works, and gets the viewers attention. Maybe we could have 2 main characters, Buddy on the "gangster" side and maybe a detective on the "police" side, so we could have 2 people telling the story.

So yeah guys and girls, if you are interested, please tell me, or if you have any ideas to contribute or anything, you know how to reach me :)

If anyone is STILL interested, ha ha, here are some positions that culd be filled :)

Mapper
Texture Artist
Writer
Programmer
Animator

If we can just get 1 person for each, that would be awsome, if not, thats ok :)

So anyways, here is the update, 360 view of Tommy "the hammer" Malone, next is "Left Foot" Ceccoeti, so everyone wish me luck :)

Tommy 360 (http://www.geocities.com/portfoliojay/tommy.avi) - If it doesn't run with Windows Media Player, use Quicktime. Also if it says I have ran out of bandwidth, no worries, check back later :)

And here is a "promo" shot kinda, again, these models arn't suppose to be viewed THIS close, so excuse the poor quality of the textures, they prob suck anyways :)

If you dont mind I would like to add an idea for a mod.
Does anyone remember a game called Legal Crime?
It was based on the old 1920 gangsters. The point of the game was to make money through extortion, and by bribing police, military, fbi, and what not to get what you need. and to take out the other gang. It was a very addicting game (for me and many others back when it was still alive) and if the servers were still up and running I would play it to this day. the gameplay is kind of hard to explain but if you are interested here is a link for the game.
Legal Crime (http://www.download.com/Legal-Crime-v1-0-7/3000-7562_4-906255.html?tag=lst-0-1)

P.S. If at all possible I think it would be great if every aspect of the game could be recreated in a mod.

I was actually thinking about doing somthing like the game "Evil Genius" or somthing, just seemed like a cool concept :)

Niles I don't think I got it buddy, could you PM me instead, my hotmail account is gay. Sorry about that dude :)

Anyways, I have decided that I am having so much fun with these gangsters, that I want to make a project with them, be it a mod, or maybe a little scene, somthing that is TRULY finished :)
My goal is to make 4 characters, fully rigged and textured, and 1 car and put them in a scene, or mod.
Anyways, thats all I really wanna spill right now, here is a little teaser image, with a new character I haven't introduced yet. Just picture 2 more characters on top of the lettering "Buddy" and a car to the side-bottom of the "Y" hopfully it will look ok :)
I have to go for my comp exam right now, LAST ONE, so I hope you like it :) Also, I am planning on doing this project cell shaded hopfully, because I think it looks SO DAMN cool, you should "Hammer" with textures and cell shaded, looks awsome :)

UPDATE* JUST started on the textures so don't get mad, he he. I have decided that I really want to try and make this cell shading work, Almighty_Gir helped me with it, and I think it just adds so much style :)

Also I have included 2 360 views of the two models, I hope you enjoy :)

* If bandwidth is gone, wait for a bit, and then return
