View Full Version : 178 poly zombie
Schwinnz 01-27-2005, 11:10 PM Betcha can't do any better. :scream:
Just to change a bit from the level design stuff I said to myself I'd beat your character polycounts. :D
Here it is, the fruit of 30 minutes of work.

Well, the body looks good and is nicely expressive. The head is... well, let's talk about the body, eh?;)
1. Make the hands bigger, more menacing. Claws. :)
2. With how skinny you're making this guy, I'd expect the lower legs to be pretty thin--thinner than the thighs. That could just be an artistic decision, though.
3. Since you're working with quads right now anyways, give 'im a neck! He looks like his neck got removed!
Oh yeah, please work on the head. Please? For me?

Definately cartoony.
I won't change the head unless it's essential. I have my plans.
EDIT: Next update is textures.

He (she, it?) is looking really good. I was confused by the head to start with, thinking you where going to give him some kind of hat, but I now think that the bit projecting at the front is the nose of an African tribal mask. Right?
You must have reached the limit of how few polys can be used to model a recognisable 3D human form. Of course the ultimate low poly character would be an alpha-mapped single quad!

Pah! 4 polys for a head model, that's so wasteful. Florian really needs to learn how to optimise his meshes! :D

If you're really looking well you can see that I uv mapped the face the wrong side. :D I've been a bit too fast haha, no biggie at least.

Oh that''s it... damn. This is all too much cool. If I find the time this weekend I'm gonna have to get in on this retro stuff.
That zombie is perfect! I love his face and the fact that he is bowlegged.

If you want to make your character low memory consuming, you could also try to use the less texture size you can.

I'll probably resize it to 128 later, right now I prefer to use 256 because it gives more control and it looks better on screenshots :)
