View Full Version : Gundam SEED suits
El P.I.G. 01-27-2005, 08:56 PM I really like the designs of the Gundam Seed suits and have modeled a few:

Additional images with shield and beam rifle (http://phillgonzo.com/Progression/ZGMF-X10A_Freedom_13.jpg), wings unfolded (http://phillgonzo.com/Progression/ZGMF-X10A_Freedom_14.jpg), and cannons out (http://phillgonzo.com/Progression/ZGMF-X10A_Freedom_15.jpg).
I have quite a bit of skinning to do....

Jeez! amazing work!
Great modeling, and just the right amount of polys for a mechanical character.
Should look good with a texture, but it looks great already

Very Cool! :applause: The design of the Gundam suits (lots of flat surfaced mechanical parts) really lends itself well to low poly modeling.
I have to laugh at the Strike Gundam though. All the others get huge guns and he just has a couple of knives! What a swizz! :D

What a swizz! :DI was forced to raise an eyebrow at that comment.
Great modeling, even if I'm no big fan of anime- or mecha-type stuff. Nice and efficient use of poly's. :)

For the Freedom Gundam... The wing should be longer than that...
but... it is still good.!

Great work dude. But you should check the unfold wings link of the ZGMF-X10A. A search engine pops up there and my spybot rang alarm ... please fix that ...

Finished this last night, another Seed Gundam, GAT-X102, Duel:
http://phillgonzo.com/Progression/Duel_07.jpg
Polycounting:
Total (with shield & Beam Rifle): 4810
Duel: 3910
Beam Rifle: 641
Shield: 268
Jason-Lavoie: Thanks!
ninjacore: I totally agree with the dirty textures. I just don't see how "shiny" works on giant mechs! Bah! I'm a fanboy as well... as if that wasn't obvious already...
Thanks Adam Atomic! I'm finally unwrapping... so hopefully textures will show up soon.
LeeSalo: Polycounts
Strike - 3404 (base, i don't know the add-ons right now, i'll get back to you on them...)
Ginn - 4334, Ginn Sword - 274, Ginn Beam Rifle - 368
Calamity - 4961, Calamity Bazooka - 603, Calamity Shield - 322
Freedom - 6134, Freedom Beam Rifle - 401, Freedom Shield - 354
Andy H: Thanks! I've admired your work for a while like a fangirl or a groupie!
Blacklight: Yeah, the more of these I do the faster they go by, the geometry is just so simple to recerate. Those little Swizz knives on Strike are deadly, you better recognize YO.
Thanks also swizzle stick!
Bonsai, i noticed that too. I don't know what the heck is up with that link. Here's the wings unfolded picture:

Thanks for the replies guys!

woo, more cool pictures. i'm wondering..do u use references of some kind, or do u just model with THE HUMAN EYE and one of the real models? cos i totally wanna do one of these. i have a few models in my room . am thinkin maybe PMX THE "O" :O
El P.I.G.

Yeah, I use the Bandia action figures as reference. Usually I just eyeball the figure to check my proportions but sometimes i'll scan in parts to get them accurate (helps with weapons, shields, shoulders....). The benefit over the action figures over models is they hold up a bit better under the flatbed scanner.
The O is an awesome suit! DO IT!!!

oooooh, i LOVE The O, do it, haha, oh, and btw, el pig, think i should get crits on my Tallgeese III from here? seeing as how i didn't get many from GU...

Hehe. Getting these pimped out here too eh? As I've said before all the suits kick major a$$..I keep looking at the unfolded full weapons Freedom with the cannons on the back. They look odd not being closer to the shoulders. Maybe its the angle. Can we see some 3-D rotation on the others like you did for Duel in GU? Also the big problem I'm seeing with your links is that you are doubling up on your http://. Thats just what I saw when I held over the links and looked at the statusbar. Keep up the great work and make sure whatever new stuff you show here you show to the rest of us in GU.

TallgeeseIIII, definately man. There's so much to learn here it's not even funny. Have you modeled anything else lately? I remember your Tallgeese being really good and demanding more stuff out of you. Fork it over!
Guardian_2000, yep! I'm getting geared up to skin some of these since i've been hog-wild modeling for too long. The Freedom full weapons pose I was just trying something different with the angles of all the rifles. Every other picture of that mech has that setup... just mixing it up a bit. Thanks for figuring out why my link was retarded by the way. Check your GU pm sometime too...

brilliant models mate, i'm suddenly wondering i've not seen more gundam fan cg work...
but their looking great, personally i'd love to see them with dirty metal textures on them, and had always thought a bit of roughing up would make gundam look more badass.

Great Models.
As much the details as the colors are very well made.
Keep work man ;)

very nice work, Are you going to texture them more then the basic shadeing? You can add some ageing and the like to realy punch out your exelent models.
I can't critique any of these, they look exelent, but the next step for you is to give yourself a poly limit, and then try to get these models to become game worthy by trimming the ploys down. A good target for hero characters for a gundam action game is 6000 triangles. If you can trim all of these models down to that same poly limit, and then put some nice textures on them, they'll be great reel pieces.
