View Full Version : "Push button" anim sequences?
I'm wondering if there's a way to set up sequences of particular animation events and be able to trigger them from the timeline using a single key. For example, an airplane's landing gear going up. I would like to set up that animation up and then be able to call it from the time line at any given point with a single "trigger" key. So I need anim events that are not tied to the current timeline.
Forgive me if this is a no-brainer. I'm mainly a modeler and animation concepts are kind of foreign to me. If anyone could point me to the spot in the help docs that would explain this, I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks!

take a look at the reaction manager or parameter wiring - you should be able to tie all the animation to a viewport slider or something. Check in the online help
Thanks Pete. A viewport slider is part of what I'm after, but I'm really hoping to be able to just click predetermined sequences. For example, an airplane's landing gear. The sequence goes like this:
1. Gear doors open.
2. Gear extends.
3. Gear door partially closes to reduce drag. (On some models.)
I'd like to set this all up on a timeline and then save it as a single action I can call later. The speed at which these events occur remains constant, so I'd rather refer to it on a timeline as a "go" sort of action rather than embedded as additional animation.

this is something i beg for too....without knowing much if it is possibly allready in max7.
im very used to the quite genius animation concept of macromedia flash with all the "animations inside an object" and all the trigger-possibilities. to be back with only one timeline would be quite a pain.
i just finished modelling my bf-109 and have the same problem with the gear and flaps for it as part of a bigger animation project.
any help or tricks that could make "subanimations" easier would be highly appreciated

well..I guess sliders or reaction manager can work it out..
if u make the all action starts at ..say zero% value..and the action takes 40 frames..go to the last frame and make the slider value 100%..
I know that this isn't what u want..but I think it can be worked out that way..
I think what you really want can be done by scripting..I'm taking my first baby steps in max script now but I think this can be done with it.. --don't count much on that:)
if any body know well about max script..I think he can help u with that..

if you dont want to do the scripting/parameter wiring/reaction manager route your only other option is to look at the Block controller, which allows you to place many animation parameters and then just drop the block in a non-linear way, ie a separate block for gear up, gear down etc. But good luck with that. ive never heard anyone particularly extolling them as a viable work method, including me.:)

at least i have something now for the max8 wishlish:)
object timelines and layer-timelines with triggers and scripts ala flash.
would be the same evolution jump like from mm-director to mm-flash
