does anyone know how to create an atomic explosion using Maya particles?

I am sure some one knows.
Take particles, use some fields, add in some expressions a little compositing, and there you are a fresh nuke!

check out this script:
it's using fluidshapes connected to particles, there's another thread on this subject. This guy did the effort of scripting in some presets... so this will get you most of the way there - a great part of your shader work is handled trough the script, appart from that you can manipulate the particles like any other particles... trough expressions and such...
there's another tutorial online... I'll try getting the Url because it went offline for a while, about using a 2d fluidscontainer and using it to drive the motion of your 3d particles as a field.
maybe someone else rembers, you'll probably find it on http://www.learning-maya.com/tutorials.php as well.
- be prepared for long rendertimes if you're using the fluidsshape approach.
- if it's not seen from up close you're better of using sprites in combination with a compositing application to give them more depth.
*edit: that's the link for the 2d fluids driving 3d particles tutorial:
- you can find a lot of helpfull information on learning-maya anyways..

i too saw that rendernode tut .. yesterday. n its nice to see some pros tipping us..
and one more thing.. is ..if u desire to have realistic "shading" to ur explosion, u can now use the Fluids to shade ur particles..
i came across this beautiful effort by Peter Shipkov, check out http://petershipkov.com/development/afterburn/afterburn.htm
n see how we can link up the fluids n particles.. its like best of two worlds !!!
hope this helps...
BTW: after u download his zip file, open the MEL he gave and put 'global' word before all his 'proc' s .. n his UI will start working !!
