I think the two types are interchangable, depending on your specific motherboard. Just look up its stats and determine what kinds of RAM it allows. The difference between the two, as far as I can tell, is that registered RAM adds a slight pause in the caching cycle or something similar. The net effect is that it is timed better to operate with the processer than Non-registered, which has no pause at that point. I don't know if that translates into much of a performance difference, but the upshot is that you should be capable of installing both, again depending on your motherboard.
