View Full Version : modelling problem - merge
bJekX 01-27-2005, 12:50 AM the surface should be smooth, during this modelling i have combined poly objects and then then merged the vertex´s. it seems that the edges are not merged, but i merged the vertices ... dont get it. please help

Check your normals, Im betting that there are some adjacent faces whose normals are facing in opposite directions. To fix this, just select one of your faces, and go to
Edit Polygons->Normals->Conform.
Also, just check that you havent left any unwanted polygons inside the object which can sometimes hapen if you have been extruding faces and forgotten to turn on 'keep faces together'. Finally, just ensure that you have merged the vertices properly.
(Although, its definitely the Normals) :)

Before smoothing or doing any automatic operation like that you should first make sure that your topology is good. Meaning, make sure that all of the coinciding vertecies are merged and make sure you have ngons with greater than 4 sides. I notice just from a brief glance there are two polygons with 5 sides in your problem area. That's a problem.
