Does any one know of a Long Island, NY based LightWave group?

If there isn't one, do we have any Long Islanders here that would like to form one?

Thanks!

You could try checking this site: http://www.friendsofnewtek.com/ They list user groups for many areas.

Brian,
Don't know how far you are from New York City, but there's a NYC Lightwave user group. They usually post their meeting dates in the Newtek forums. Check 'em out. Good group of people.

Hey guys, thanks for the info on the NYC group!

Unfortunately i'm about two hours from the city, bearing in mind traffic patterns for the day.

I'm hoping for a Long island LW group in the soffulk county area. Hell I even host it at my house if need be! :)

If any one is interested please let me know!

Agian thanks guys!

Hey Bri.

I'm currently in Long Island (moving back to NYC within a few months). Haven't heard of any LI Lightwave groups. Just the one in NYC.

Hey thanks guys!

I look into the NYC lightwave user group. Maybe they would be interested in mirroring it out on the island.

Peter, thanks for the offer, i'm certainly interested in hearing more.

Brian,

Im on LI too. I think Newtek has a listing for LI but it might be out of date?? I'd be interested if something exists. Just need to find the time to attend!

nyclightwave is based in manhatten. A long time friend of mine paul goodrich hosts the nyc lightwave meetings. My brother, a long time lightwave user, brings it all together, and hosts along with paul. Together they get speakers to present, including users who are expert in particular aspects of lightwave. The groups are very friendly, and educational.
I have given about 10 lectures on various production aspects of ligthwave.
Whenever i'm in town we try to schedule something for the group. I always have something new to show.

Take a proactive approach, if you guys can find a place to host, equipment to host on, then my brother can probably get a group going for you guys in long island.

hour into the city, hour in to long island, theres no difference right. =)

hes in the middle anyways in the flushing area.

hope that helps
peter

Thanks for the info peter!

I'll have to see about places that could host a group.

For now i'd be willing to just use my house!
Lets see how many people are interested in a LI/Soffulk LWgroup.

I'd love to link it up with the NYC group. The hour trip is no biggy, but money to get there is. lol! Starving artist? couldn't resist.

I have not idea how to go about putting such a group together so any ideas would be great!

Gpalz - were on long island are you? i'm in medford.

Brian3D,

Nassau County, Floral Park. I was aware of the NYC usergroup and would see its posts on the Newtek forum boards. Since I usually work till seven, It difficult to make the trip (excuses, I know). Im willing to make the trip into NYC with a group of people to check out the next session. As Peter mentioned, its all about being proactive.

I'm in medford, Gpalz is in Floral Park, and Peter's bother is in Flushing, mmmmmmmmmm....

Well now, if we could just get a user group setup around the nassua/suffolk line!

Well, Gpalz, I have a friend or two that do lightwave near me. Not promising anything, but money and time providing, maybe I can get them to go and we could meet up to go to a NYC meeting. If i'm to try and start a group out here on th island I may as well find out how a group is organized first! :)

That would be great!

My wife, from Great Neck, and I, from Islip, come back up during the summer to vacation Fire Island for three months. Having something closer than the city would be a boon, seeing as how it is a 2 hour love affair to get off the island then into the city.

Ok, well it looks like there is certainly interest in a long island LW group.
peterpro - I have tried to register at the NYC groups web site but I get broken images for the anti spam part. If you could pass this along to your brother? I would like to ask him for advice and guidence here.

Bearing in mind I have no idea how to run/start a group any help would be greatful!

To give my background, i'm a computer technician by trade and lightwave user by hobby.

I would also like to compile a list of users who would like to have a long island group? Once we know how many people are really interested in a LI group we can take it from there.
Simply add a reply to this post for now or if you like email me directly.

Here is my email: Brian3D@optonline.net.

Thanks for every ones help here!

hehe fire island is awsome in the summer, i used to go there all the time.

i'll pass it along,
nyclightwave is hosted by a friend in l.a.

however, due to some recent spam attacks nyclightwave was knocked off for alittle while.
someone replaced all the index files with bush sucks.. a hacker from romania or somwthing.

however, his hosting is much better now and much more hacker unfriendly.)

Well it does not look like enough people are interested in a Long Island Lighwave group.

Beside my self, it just seems to be a small hand full, so for now I will put aside the thought of a lighwave users group.

Here is a thought for those how have answered this tread, since it is only a handfull, why not once a month we can get together/meet some some place and discuss lightwave. I have a laptop, and assume, (Could be wrong), that one or two other people might? Welll we could meet at a bookstore/starbucks or get together at some ones house?

Let me know what you think.
