not sure which version of max you're using...
Assuming you're using max 5, it seems as though the new Advanced Lighting features have made Lightscape somewhat obsolete. I haven't used Lightscape for quite some time now, but from the last version I used, this seems to be the case.
You can now use Radiosity (for indoors mostly) or Light Tracer for Global Illumination, then render as usual. If you don't have anything animated other than your camera, Radiosity can be very quick to render, as max doesn't need to recalculate new lighting conditions on a per-frame basis. Otherwise, it's very slow... not sure how these new features compare with other GI renderers--i.e. FinalRender, MentalRay, Brazil, etc... but I'm sure it all depends on processor speed, multithreading, etc...
Here's a quick test I did while learning about the Radiosity feature... the radiosity calculated in about 1min30sec, and it renders in less than 1 minute on a dual 400mhz machine. (I'm well aware of the issues in the image--quality/graininess/lampshade, etc...):
bear in mind, just like lightscape, you can see the radiosity in the viewport-- so it almost looks like this while working, except for the mirror/some textures...
hope this helps...

Igor,
What kind of animation are you trying to export. may be a better idea not to export animation but to jsut export your camera.

i meant animation like, a ball bouncing....i actually had made a scene where a 'glowing' ball was bouncing around then came to a stop...
i've already made a fly-by of a small lightscape scene i've made before, and i had no problem with that.
