"This is the design that we came up with. There may be people that complain about its usability, but that's something which users and game software developers will have to adapt to.... This is something that we've created, and this is our specification. There was a clear purpose to it, and it wasn't a mistake."
Horray for customer service!
Not to sound racist or anything, but I've found (having lived in japan for a while) that as far as hardware goes, this is usually the mindset of a good amount (not all) of japanese companies.
I still want one though....

This is not crazy at all. They spent alot of money and time on the PSP, so their head guy should show his strong support for it. It would look extremely bad for him and Sony to admit any design faults this late in the game. However, this doesn't mean they won't make small changes here and there going forward, they just don't want to generate any lose of confidence in their product by doing something really crazy and publicly admit there is a problem with the system.

Quote - "Offering additional testimony praising the handheld, Kutaragi said, 'I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect's blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It's the same as that.'"
They'd criticize it if the position of the gate caused the gate to not work properly. :D

It works. You just need to jab it with a DS stylus.
Isn't the initial response to any problem to deny it and act like it was on purpose? Seems the MO of everyone. Then when you realize you can't back out of it, then you start apologizing and fixing the problem.
If it doesn't affect sales, do you think they care to fix it?
