I dont know if this is the right place for this question, though i think it might be.

What i would like to achieve is a Game tipe effect, it works when a character walks in the water creating fake ripples using textures that expands and fade giving the illusion of "real" ripples. I think its made with dynamics since there might be a collition involved instance. (think lineage2 or any modern game)

Another thing i would like to add to the above effect is the foam generated trough the colition of the water with the ground plane, something like a beach and the foam generated when the water hits the sand. (think Farcry's beaches)

There is another very interesting water collition used in the PS2 game called "Baldour's Gate". quite interesting and doesnt require too much computer power to generate.

Any help creating these effect would be very appreciated.

according to foam,

go to thread "offshore foam effect" (posted by me)

where i had the same question and that cool guy Duncan :applause: helped me out.

hope it works well with your scene.

according to ripples,

since the ocean shader uses textures to displace etcetc, you can't use dynamics (as far as i know)

if you must use dynamics check out other ways (perhaps nextlimit's realfow-->realwave).

yeah, i saw that thread, though i want a much simpler affect, something more like a game effect.

The water in farcry is quite good and realistic..yet is realtime rendered, the ripples created when there is some interaction i belive is made with textures and dynamics., and i think the foam is another dynamic based texture effect set to collide with the ground surface.

Though my question is, how to replicate that in maya :)

Realflow....is a no... i wont purchase an external program, maya SHOULD do it just fine ;).

2d fluids arepretty much real time depending on the resolution. you can use the pond and emit from the legs of the character. it won't look as good as the ocean shader rendered but you will get some sort of realistic realtime ripples and foam. If you want it to have an added water look you can create a non-dynamic 3d container that is simple a y gradiant that fakes the depth of water.
