View Full Version : Should I upgrade to LW8.2?

I'm a very new user of LW (about six months and only in my spare time so far). I'm on a Titanium PowerBook G4/400 (that is, 400 MHz G4 processor) with 1GB of RAM and running Mac OS 10.3.7 (Panther). My next intended plug-in purchases are CR2 Loader/CR2 Rigger. I'm currently using 7.5d, but I have the upgrade sitting on my desk, so I can install it anytime I like.

I was intending to wait to install LW8 until I got a new computer (with a faster processor), but that's at least six months away. I do like the idea of additional Modeler tools, even though I'm still getting used to the ones I've got.

Do you think it would be OK to upgrade or will LW8 either overload my system or interfere with CR2 Loader/CR2Rigger? Any other observations about the upgrade? I've been told that the hot keys change, which is something of a worry. I've just gotten used to the ones I've got!

Any advice would be welcome! Thank you!

I haven't installed 8.2 yet, but don't worry about the hotkeys. They are customizable.

Well, I've been told the hot keys are customizable, but I have yet to accomplish the feat. I cannot get Delete mapped to my backspace (that is "Delete" on a Mac PowerBook keyboard).

I don't doubt that it's something I'm doing wrong, but that doesn't get my keys remapped. ^_^

I think you need to hold down the Function Key on the PowerBook Keyboard in order for the Delete key to work (i don't have my PB here @ the moment, but give that a try). :)

When LW [8] is installed it is put in to it's own folder. So you can still have 7.5 and 8.2 running on the same machine (I think only one at a time due to dongle) and try 8.2 out without affecting your 7.5 install.

FABULOUS!

I'll do that. Then if there's some problem, I can always back up.

Thanks!

I can't get the CD to spin up in my CD-ROM drive.

The poor drive's never been the same since I put the Discovery Edition CD into it about two and a half years ago. Never a problem until then, but that one wouldn't spin up, and sometimes a disk won't spin up for love or money. Others will, but some select ones won't. Lightwave 101 from Epic wouldn't, and now neither will any of the LW8 disks.

Oh, well. I guess 8.2 will have to wait for the new machine anyway.
