View Full Version : Demo reel progress...
Viewtiful Baker 01-24-2005, 02:22 PM Hey Everyone. I'm in my lst semester of digital animation here, and we're working on our demo reels. I really wanna make this the best I can get it, so I was hoping to put some pics here to get whatever advice people are willing to offer. Still a long way to go yet, but I'm getting there.
The idea is basicaly a very fat man in his under. I'm going for a bit of a cartoony style, but still pretty life-like (and visually disturbing hehe). I've started the head so far, mainly working the eyes and nose. Also, getting the eyelids built properly is proving a little difficult. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

curiously enough, I just finished a head with rather similar proportions.
I've got the wires handy, and as they basically encompass my critique to you: watch your topology and try to have it flow with your surfaces, I'll just show you the wire.

Thanks for the response. I posted 2 weeks ago or so, and your the first reply. Those images will be good reference for the edge loops. Very clean model, by the way. Quite good.
I've advanced a fair bit now, I'm putting an updated pic of it here now.
looks good!
However you'll probably want to look into revising the structure of the mesh. Essentially you should have three areas of concentric circles: around the mouth (which continues to radiate outwards to above the nostrils) and around each eye. Currently the cheek portion of your model is rather gridlike, and doesn't represent the flow of the face well.
Here's a real good read if you've got an hour or so:

unfortunately some of the pictures are broken, but there is still a lot of good info in it.
