hi guys ,
writing a review of lightwave 8.2 for a magazine ..
want to write a fair review ..beside of the good stuff i would have to speack about the bad and brocken stuff but i want to stay fair and speack about only the confirmed bug , or at least the one that have been experienced by a lot of user could you tell me wich bug is really confirmed ?

beside of that ..
open your layout .. add a null object , go to fog and volumetric option and add hyervoxel .. boum crash .. :-( ( at least for me ..)

can any one confirm ?

I can't confirm that, works fine on my machine.

Dual Athlon MP 1900+
1Gb RAM

I can confirm that the child bone jumps away when using bonesplit.

I got that once after using bone fuse, but I haven't been able to reproduce it since.

EDIT: Ok, so it happens with bone split when using linear.

HV crash seems to be related to procedual plugins loaded that are not properly made to support HV. So it's a third party plugin issue.

No HV troubles here.

But I might have another. Try this. Load up an object in layout. Open surface editor. Add 3 image map layers (with different images) on the color channel. Close the surface editor. Open it again. Remove the top layer. Close the surface editor. Go to the image editor, and right click/delete the image that was used on the layer you removed.
Go back to color channel in surface editor, and voila, the 2nd layer doesn't have an image applied anymore.

Not sure if you need al the step I described. Perhaps it also happens with 2 layers. Haven't tried.

probably bug is third parts plugins, if i do it with standard plugins (without legacy plugins) all work fine. if i load my external plugins folder, the bug appair, but i have over 800 external plugins, then is impossible for now check what plug give me problems.


i found similar problems with screamernet with some plugins which work correctly in layout, but crash in screamernet of lw8.2, and work fine on screamernet of lw 8.0.1
but if i discard all external plugins all work fine, i must do the recheck for all single external plugins, if i found the name of plugins i can send to you .

check did with dual xeon, single p4, athlon standard, g4, g3.
all work fine with standard config.

Try this:

In modeler, make a cube and apply UV texture on it with atlas mode. Then paste the cube to the second layer. Clear map on it and create new one with another UV map. Then open UV viewport and open Vertex map panel. Select UV map for the seccond layer (cube), go to first layer and autosize viewporst (Shift+A), LW crash. When You change layer and UV texture, its ok, but when you have selected UV for second layer and autosize viewports for first layer, LW crash, because UV viewport dont show anything. LW 8 and 8.0.1 dont crash.

Hello.. Heres a few stuff.. im stuck with..:

1. Loads slower than the previous version.. (5 seconds!!)

2. Try this!! From Layout.. click on the Dynamic Obj and Add a WIND.

What happens? a total chaos.. Lightwave freezez for 10 seconds. then you can hardly switch through the tabs.. to set the winds direction..etc..!!!

1. LW 8.2 maybe run little slower

2. I cant confirm that. Wind panel open in a 1/10 second. And changes is very fast!!!

Tim007: Yep! My modeler hangs if you have selected a texture for an object in an other layer than the object activated and have UV texture view in one of the viewports and press Shift+A.

The magazine is a German magazine mate, so I am sure it will be properly written in his native tongue.:wise: DA!

Hmmm... Very interesting..

Does any one know how i could fix the problem with the WIND ??? I cant use the application.. its freezing.. !! uses 95% of my CPU..!!

I got a UVMap crash very close to the one ZTreem had (two layers object one with UV, the other no UV and a UV viewport opened). When I switch to the not UVed layer, Modeler crashes.

I got crashes on renderings with FPrime opened.

I also got a very long hanging with surface baker though my object was OK (already discussed on splinecage, the neverending handing took place again).

I have long hangups with large objects.

I have read that people have noticed that 8.2 takes more time to load than 8. It is the same here. I think it is due to my firewall (ZoneAlarm), the number of requests on the TCP/IP seem more numerous at start-up.

Unlike 8.2, 8.0.1 has never ever crashed on my machine.

I can confirm the UV map crash. Today I pulled in a model that had a UV map applied. Since it was a subpatched model I wanted to try the new UV feature for subpatched models. I copied the model to a new layer and recreated the UV map. When I clicked on the original layer LW crashes. I opened LW again to see if it was just a fluke and I was able to repeat the crash over and over again.

well the article is for a german magazine , and thus even if french is my native language ,
i wrote it in german

so now ... is this place a 3d forum or a gramatic fetischist forum ? :D
