View Full Version : character; The Punk
Gene_C 01-22-2005, 10:04 PM hey just something I sketched up when I had a minute and the decided to model for some fun and practice. I left the sketch at work, but, I will try to get it up here shortly. So, I just finished fleshing him out and now I will start throwing in the details. I am also trying to push proportions around to see what works, and what doesn't.

I am really digging this. Great concept and great execution. A couple of things that seems a little off to me is the inside of the elbow joints and the spine which looks odd.
Fantastic work.

nice work, the design kind of looks like some Japanese modern style, like new-age punker. yeah, for critique on him, i think that for the anatomy (and i don't know if it's for design or not) but the belly area and crease of the back seem a little too pinched like a slit. overall, it is a nice model and i am looking forward to seeing the finished textured and modeled version. good work.:)

hey quick update for ya, forgot my drawing again, oh well it'll get up here someday.
Jesse; He keeps his brains in his ass, so there is no need to cap of his head... unless he gets turned upside down, oh crap I didn't think of that!

the character is looking better and better, especailly the back spine, looks muscular with great design. Also, I think your outfit looks really nice too!!
can't wait to see the character with full texturing.
Great job!:buttrock:

Good modeling, but in terms of design, he's going to have a hell of a time walking with those knee pads. In fact, it doesn't even look like he will be able to take a single step without having those things clip each other.

mikecarry- yeah i knew the second I started proxying him out that they wouldn't work, but thats the point of doing it in CG, I can just angle it, or render the pads in seperate passes and you will never see the the crashing, I also kinda wanted him to move like a cowboy and walk with a swager, those suckers will sure force it.

Awesome character and details. I think if you add more volume to the upper lip in certain places it will give him more character. Just an idea.

I love the concept on this one, and its very well modeled so far. Really nice mechanical parts and the thin shins are really adding to the character.
I think his knee pads are a tad too large and his knuckleduster thingies dont seem to fit very well. Be carefull you dont pick up too much on the stylisation of the reference image - it doesnt really apply to your model because its so anatomically correct.
Keep it up!

I lIke the second jacket! love it with a cap!
maybe you could just use the jacket's cap to cover the head and give us another render, it should be nice!:applause:

Excellent dude!!! Very nice model, pretty clean, maybe some smoothing on the spin and you could even go each other point and pull it out a little and that should give you a nice "bumby" spin, you've already got the geometry there.
Love to see him in action, any special purpose for the "suspended knee-pads"? Do they like plug into a cockpit of a mech or something ;), they look awesome, and great job on the jacket, be great to see your deformation once he's rollin!!!

I'm also curious about this knee-pads! But the model is simpy great. I agree with the spine but perhaps you wouldn't see it anyway.

The updates you did since the first post are looking great. The understanding of the critique is very effective.

hey guys thanks for the comments, I have some nice updates comming, I'm just having some problems getting them accross from cyberspace, and problems with getting the d3 shaders going on my home machine.
JonnyBlaze- the knee pad idea i cool, espically becasue I am currently working on a mech, but no, that is not the reason. I actually wanted him to be a kickboxer, so I put metal peices on the parts of his body that he would attack with. the jacket was to keep him warm inbetween fights. And I think I will take your advice on the spine, thanks.
PhoenixDown- what can i say about the hair dude, they are just grids, took some time placing the clumps of them but I am happy with the style and result.

and an update, I'm curerntly testing out a normal map on the jacket, I think I like where it is going. What do you think? (lite this in 3 seconds, I'll put in an decent effort for the next update)

Really good work, and nice concept. I like the edge flow. Maybe you should improve the Gastrocnemius and the Peroneus longus muscle a little bit, it would match better to the arm.
