View Full Version : Bitmap Shadows? Translucency?

Hi, i have a real challenge (for me).
Can somebody help me?
Im going to explain this effect:

When i take a 35mm photo film (the negative -- Filmstrip) and put it on front of a
white surface (few mm from it), and a light pointing to it, i find
that the shadow of the film isn't gray!!
It has the same colors of the film and i can even see the images of the film projected on the surface, but a little bit blured and
increasing this blur as i move the film away from the surface. (this is the same effect when developing films).

I tried different solutions, but none can give me the right effect:
- Translucent surface
- Transparent surface
- A spotlight with an image.
- The film, with 800% luminosity and radiosity

Help PLEASE!!!!

U described two effects - colored shadow and blured shadow...
For first one change Color filter to 100 % (Surface editor -> Advanced tub -> Color Filter) and use regular spot or distance lights with shadows...

For the second try to use area light...

indeed.... i used area light and i can see the blur .... but the shadows have a little "granularity".

Try either increasing the area light quality or sizing it down.

When using Arealights you donīt need the highes quality if you use enhanced antialiasing. Because LW renders the shadows many times a bit different then put it together. So you can sometimes get a really good result with a low Alight quality and Enhanced Medium AA or higher and sometimes better renderspeed. :)
The quality of the shadows increase for every enhanced antialiasing step.
Reflectionblur and radiosity wotk the same way..
