View Full Version : WARN:Missing Open GL extension
bkjernis 01-22-2005, 04:30 PM When I start up XSI 4.2 I get the warning in the lower left of my screen that says "WARN:Missing Open GL extension(ARB_Shadow)-realtime shadow maps will not be available." Why is this happening and what should I do to repair it? I installed the "omega drivers" but still get this message. Should I go into "Control panel" and repair the last installation or should I uninstall and do a new install of the program. Has anyone seen this problem and is there an easy fix. My graphics card is a ATI Radeon 34xM mobility card and I am using XPHome. The graphics card has 64MB and is "DirectX8" compatible. I don't Know if the "OMEGA" drivers upgrade the graphics card to "DirectX9". All suggestions appreciated,Brent Kjernisted

Your graphic card doesn't support this extension and thats it. I get the same message with my GeForce DDR. This isn't a serious problem since it will not effect your renders. So don't worry ;)

And concerning your question about DirectX and the Omega drivers. Your graphic card is capable of DirectX 8 effects as you said, you can install DirectX 9 but this doesn't mean the effects your graphic card can display will be extended. The graphic drivers will always support what the hardware does and nothing more. DirectX 9 is just downward compatible in using and displaying DirectX 8 effects. Just like any software for maybe Windows 98 will run under Windows XP but it will not use the new features that Windows XP brings with it. Hope I could be of help. :)

Neostar, thanks for the quick response! I thought this might be the case. It's now time to install some scripts and plugins since I have this problem solved. Do you know if all the scripts and plugins at xsibase are compatible with xsi 4.2? Regards, Brent Kjernisted

My best guess is that this is not the case, but you should better ask raffael3d (http://www.cgtalk.com/member.php?u=1693) or some moderators over at xsibase.
