Hello all, I’m looking for some info about how I might better work with Maya and Lightwave in conjunction. Please do not turn this thread into an argument on which program is better, I don’t care, I am aware of all the arguing points. I have used Lightwave for six years now, and its my personal program, but Im currently getting my MFA and the school, like most, use Maya. I know many people use these two programs in conjunction and I wanted to find out if there are good programs/plugins that allow sharing of data between the two systems? Im thinking more in terms of camera animation data, particles, etc, and if there are none and there are some users out there whom use both programs, maybe you can give me some tips about the workflow I might employ when swapping data, in whatever form, back and forth between the two systems.

My Best

Howard

I've personally used Point Oven Pro which uses the MDD format to exchange mesh deformation between various apps. I don't know much about the Beaver Project, but it looks to be a fairly nice program. :)

Also another possibility would be using the FBX interchange format (http://www.alias.com/eng/products-services/fbx/index.shtml).

I just worked on a project where all of our modeling was done in LW, then it was exported to Maya where it was animated, then using the Beaver Project we brought the animation back into LW for rendering.

The reason why we did this was because we were quicker at modeling and uv-ing in LW, our animation was more efficient in Maya, and we had more render options with LW.
