Hi - my first post and all that...

I am working on an ambitious live action/CG project called "Stranger things", more info on the project site - this will be being updated throughout the project.

Some character test movies ( there is more imagery in the main site ) :

These are my first attempts at some head animations using max 7 morpher... is this the best way? The character is not complete yet but any advice welcome - I have been doing some fur tests with HairFX for max - but the hair system seems to fail when using morpher after the first frame... any idea why?

I am not a max user so I'm afraid I cant help you with your technical issues however, commenting on the animation only I find that the expressions on the character are very clear but I find that the transitions between them are a little smooth and mechanical. It might be nice to do a search on 3D secondary motion and try to work in some natural transitions.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks Frank! Yes I totally agree - I am working on the motion curves. At the moment the expressions are kind of full on or off.

I am presenting these mainly as they are the first real steps in animating for the project and I want this to be a record of the animation work and... well I am going to need the help and advice! The script is set (but will probably change as they do) and we are shooting the first section of the live action in HD in February.

Then the main bulk of the tracking / animation / compositing will be completed over the next three months – by when, I am petrified to think about, I will need to lose about 3 stone (42 pounds) because for some reason I could not find anyone else to play the main character, who needs to go through some serious changes!

I Like the project idea - how many people are involved? You after any more people for either the shoot or the post work? Can I read the script?

I would not be that much help with the 3d work - but have done a lot of composition work...

Thanks,

Sorry for the long wait on the reply - Have had a rare holiday. We are gearing up for the shoot - hopefully in about 4 weeks (already falling behind!) and will be updating information on the site soon. Lot's to do - we are crewing at the moment. It will be a 2 weekend shoot initially in S/W London. Any help will be fully credited.

If you send me any specific skills/CV to andy@prowl.co.uk

and so as not to go of topic...my first live action camera tracked shot. Is it a just a few stock motions from Max.

tracking is hard to get right it seems - I am using Syntheyes. It is not very user friendly - but seems to have a good user base and is cheap! Anyone recommend anything similar?
