while Maya and MAX users having fun with new cool sss shaders like - fast sss skin

xsiers waste time with diffusion...((
i mean - diffusion is great - but it is not the best way to simulate skin in mental ray...
So why software, which strong side always was the best in industry integration with MENTAL RAY, does not support all of it's features?

There are alternative to Diffusion: md_subScatter, misss_physical and TranVol.

Maybe because it is not as integrated as it is claimed to be? When XSI came out there was no other strong integration of mr on the market.... It is probably still the best one from a workflow point of view, but I suspect that SI is running out of ressources atm and eye-candy stuff is not an essential item on the roadmap. If you ask the question to someone at Softimage you will probably be told that it is not exposed because until recently there was no demand for it (ie ressources were limited and decisions had to be made). Anyway my guess is as good as yours, you'll have to get used to this situation.

What version of XSI are you using. I think 4.2 has the right shaders. Maybe I'm wrong though.

XSI 4.2 doesn't allow the misss_fast_skin shader, even thought it is available to the mental ray version.

This bad news http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/sad.gif MiSSS fast is an incredible shader and I love using it at work in Maya. The whole reason I am looking into XSI in the first place is Mental Ray integration and workflow. First I find out linux versions of XSI are more expensive and now no MiSSS fast http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/scream.gif

Reread my first post.
Hopefully it will be available soon, the Diffusion shader is fantastic but takes ann extermely long time to render, were would I find these three shaders
md_subScatter, misss_physical and TranVol.
I believe I have an old version of TranVol but I cant seem to find the md_subScatter or misss_physical shader anywere. Thanks for your help.
