Hi guys,
I`m new to Maya, worked so far with Max and little XSI, and i have a question. Well, i wonder if there is a way to go back in the construction history, u know deleting some modifiers or going back with the changes u have made. Like Max - u can for instance delete the last modifier from the modifiers stack, or XSI - u can go back in the explorer with every change u`ve made and delete it. I think thats something fundamental, but i cant find a way to do it - for example if i have a poly object and i aply a smooth to it, than i`m not able to go back to the low poly, if i`m not satisfy wit the result. I`ll be very glad if u tell me how to do it, or share some other approact to this problem. Thank u in advance.

Each History event is a separate node which you can bring up in the hyperGraph. (choose the specific node in the channel box, bring up the hyperGraph, choose "up and downstream connections", your picked node is in yellow) You can delete them here, but you will loose the function... So that does not work for just clearing the history nodes. There are a few mel's at Highend3d but I think this is a problem with Maya. But as far as smoothin you can pick the polySmoothFace1-node in the channel box and set the division entry to 0. This will "unsmooth" it, but I don't know really how it works when you edit the surface. It will probably mess things up.

I prefer not to work that way.

it should work fine - all you have to do is disconnect or delete the polySmooth node and then reconnect when you're finished (or drop another one on top).

If you're wanting to work on your low-poly mesh and see a high-poly update in realtime, there are numerous scripts for this purpose, just look in the 'Polygon' section on Highend (www.highend3d.com)

first set the smooth to 0, now open the attribute editor, find the smooth node, select it via the button in the AE at the bottom left and then hit delete.
that should do the job for you
